Another question to add to your list: who should be the fist group targeted for your evangelism?

Given the current disarray of Christian beliefs, I suggest Christians need to put their own house in order before focusing on others. Infighting among Christians contributes much to the abandonment of that faith, and seriously diminishes the force of Christian evangelism.

It's difficult to take Christian arguments seriously when Christians themselves are unpersuaded.

For myself, what disconnected me from all gods is their silence. Nothing about modernity could disconnect one from an active, engaged god. Abandoning modernity would not nullify a deity's self-alienation.

Interesting thoughts moving in the right direction. I wonder how the author defines Christianity? Upon what basis is that definition? Without question, western civilization has radically departed from where it once was. Is the answer getting back to nature or back to an originalist reading of the Bible? What is the theme of the Bible? Is history linear? If so, where is it going? What should be the daily preoccupation of the Christian and what is his/her message to the nonChristian world?

Thanks for your thoughts Peter.

I think it's important to note - I don't believe that Western civilisation can or should go back to 'where it once was.' Society has moved on, and this results inevitably from the technological and cultural developments that have occurred. We cannot combat them.

However, as a Christian, the question then becomes, 'How do we evangelise in this new world? How do we keep the faith ourselves in a modernity that makes that difficult?'

I don't know what the answers to those questions are, but that's the theme of my blog!
